Product Info: This plant is a live hybrid Rosa chinensis named Clotilde. It is a starter-sized plant with an approximately 4-inch-diameter root zone and will be at least 6 to 8 inches tall. Plants will not have blooms or buds on arrival. Starter-size plants are intended for a gardener to plant and grow to their finished mature size. Plants are guaranteed to arrive in good, viable, healthy condition but are not guaranteed after acceptance and planting in the new environment.
Plant Info: Clotilde or Clothilde Soupert is an old Heirloom Polyantha Rose introduced in 1888 by Soupert & Notting. Its recorded parentage is ‘Mignonette, Polyantha’ x ‘Madame Damaizin’. It has graced gardens around the world for more than a century and remains among the most popular and prized Old Garden Roses.
Flowers: It produces medium-sized, abundant, fragrant, densely petaled, quartered, cabbage-style roses in multiple shades of pink, cream, and white in clusters at the terminal ends of branches on new growth. Flower color is most saturated and darkest in periods of cool weather. It is a perpetual bloomer that cycles back into bloom as growth matures.
Growth Habit: Clotilde matures into a rounded branched bush at about 3 to 4 feet and is a slower grower than the average rose. The old growth will develop sparse, large blunt thorns. The new growth is nearly thornless. It is easy to grow, requires little care aside from regular feeding, occassional pruning after flowering and consistent watering. It will self-cure most common rose issues and occasional lapses in watering by shedding old foliage and flushing new leaves.
Light Needs: Roses need the full spectrum of light for a minimum of 5 to 6 hours daily to produce flowers and maintain plant health. Acclimate young plants to the full sun gradually to avoid drying out and burning.
Indoor Growing: No. Roses are not suitable or recommended for indoor growing. They do not adapt easily to indoor growing conditions and typically decline rapidly indoors.
Care and Maintenance: Clotilde is a tough and resilient old heirloom hybrid that will self-cure common rose problems related to high summer heat and humidity as conditions improve. Monitor for common rose pests and treat them as needed. Feed a good-quality slow-release fertilizer twice yearly in the Spring and Fall. Plants prefer to dry down between watering.
Climate: Clotilde is moderately cold tolerant and can handle moderate heat and humidity. The recommended Zone Range is 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. In colder Zones, it should be planted early in the year and sheltered until well established.
