ORIGIN: Assam is a state in India which is renowned for its tea production, and Assam tea is one of the most famous and widely consumed varieties of black tea in the world. The region is characterized by low-lying plains and the fertile Brahmaputra River valley, which provides the ideal climate and soil for tea cultivation.
ABOUT: Made from the Camellia sinensis var. assamica tea plant – this varietal is known for its large, bold leaves, which produce a robust and full-bodied tea. Assam tea has strong, malty flavour with a rich and brisk taste. It has a dark amber colour.
BENEFITS: Assam tea, like other black teas, contains antioxidants. Its moderate-to-high caffeine levels may provide an energy boost.
USES: Consume either plain or with milk and sugar. Assam tea’s strong flavour makes it an excellent choice for breakfast.
BREWING: Allow 1-2 teaspoons per cup. Pour the freshly boiled water onto the leaves. Steep for up to 7 minutes.
